From Chaos to Comeback

On the morning of September 27, 2024, Western North Carolina awoke to a scene that would soon be remembered as historic. Hurricane Helene delivered relentless rain and powerful winds, unleashing catastrophic flooding across the region. What followed in Rutherford County—especially in Lake Lure and Chimney Rock—was beyond anything residents could have imagined.

The Rocky Broad River, which winds east through Chimney Rock and Lake Lure, surged an astonishing 29 feet. In its path, it left heartbreak: lives lost, homes and businesses destroyed, and roads and bridges washed away.

Resilience and Recovery

Yet in the aftermath, something remarkable happened. With support from federal, state, and local agencies, numerous volunteers, and the unwavering determination of the community—the region began to rise again. As the Town administration proudly says,

“We are getting our Lure back.”

Now, visitors are invited to come stay, celebrate, and experience the beauty that endures here. More importantly, your presence offers meaningful support to a community that has weathered so much and continues to rebuild with strength and hope.
